Best of breed technologies

Veeam Cloud Connect is an effective cloud backup and disaster recovery service, centred around protecting your data outside of your data centre. It uses data protection best practices, namely the “3-2-1 rule”, where 3 copies of data are made on 2 different media, with at least 1 of the copies stored remotely.

Although this method requires at least two sites, Veeam Cloud Connect via the Nexstor Cloud makes it easy to attain that enhanced data security and availability. With fewer expenses to maintain an extra infrastructure, this BaaS and DRaaS solution will reduce the cost of cloud migration and you’ll even receive great support from Nexstor!

How can it help my business?

The architecture for Veeam Cloud Connect is simple, as demonstrated here. Veeam does the heavy lifting using WAN acceleration to ensure that your data is safely stored offsite at a primary data centre, alongside a secondary cloud location, following the 3-2-1 rule.

This architecture helps overcome obstacles that many businesses may be experiencing. For example, a new Veeam component called the Cloud Gateway handles the backup traffic inside the SSL tunnel allowing the connection to happen directly over the internet, rather than using VPN tunnels which are hard to configure.

Using Veeam Cloud Connects hosted cloud also means there is no need for businesses to own the second site or for businesses to invest in multiple clouds, creating a cost-effective solution.

Veeam Cloud Connect FAQs

How does pricing work for Nexstor cloud backup?

Our cloud backup pricing is simple and based on consumption. We charge per terabyte of data and per virtual machine you back up, so you only pay for the capacity you actually use. This clear, granular approach keeps costs predictable and avoids hidden fees, unlike other providers, we don’t add charges for data retrieval or egress.

Yes. You can perform file‑level restores from both your Windows Cloud Connect backup and your backup copy job. Using Veeam’s recovery tools, you’re able to browse your backup data and restore individual files or folders without needing to recover an entire VM. This gives you fast, granular recovery whenever you need to retrieve specific items.

The right number of restore points depends on your recovery needs, but we generally recommend keeping enough daily and weekly restore points to cover both short‑term and longer‑term protection. Veeam allows flexible retention policies, so you can easily set a schedule that fits your compliance requirements and storage capacity. If you’re unsure, we can advise on the best retention plan for your environment.

You can easily monitor the status of your backup and backup copy jobs through the Veeam console. Each job provides real‑time status updates, showing whether it has completed successfully, completed with warnings, or failed. You’ll also receive detailed logs for each run, and you can enable email notifications, so you’re instantly alerted if a job encounters any issues. This ensures you always have full visibility and can act quickly if something needs attention.

A backup job creates your primary backup by capturing data directly from your production environment according to your set schedule. A backup copy job, on the other hand, takes those existing backups and creates a secondary copy, typically stored off‑site or in the cloud. Backup jobs protect your live systems, while backup copy jobs add an extra layer of resilience by ensuring you have an independent backup stored elsewhere for disaster recovery.
